Dal Makhani

Ingredients:

½ cup - Whole black gram (Urad)
2 tbs     - Red kidney beans (Rajma)
1          -  medium sized onion  finely chopped
1 tsp    -  Ginger garlic paste
1          -  Large tomato finely chopped
¼ tsp   - Cumin seeds
½ tsp    - Red chilli powder
½ tsp    - Cumin powder
1 tbs     - Coriander powder
½ tsp    - Garam masala
1/8 tsp - Turmeric
2 tbs     - Ghee
1tsp      - oil
1 tbs     - Butter
¼ tsp    - Lemon Juice
3 cups - Water
Salt to taste
Coriander leaves for garnish


Pre –Preparation:

  1. Wash and soak the Urad and red kidney beans together overnight or at least 4 hrs in hot water.

Method:

  1. In a pressure cooker Add Urad dal mixture and 3 cups of water.
  2. Add salt, 1 tsp oil. Mix it and cook it for 3 whistles.
  3. When pressure cooker cools down and ready to open check Urad dal n kidney beans are properly cooked.
  4. Take 1Tbs ghee in a pan and heat it on a medium high.
  5. Add cumin seeds. Stir it when become little brown add onion.
  6. Cook onions until golden brown.
  7. Now add ginger garlic paste. Let it cook for 1 more minute.
  8. Add chopped tomatoes. Mix it and cook it for another minute.
  9. Now add all dry spices red chilli powder, turmeric, cumin powder, and coriander powder and garam masala.
  10. Let it cook all spices for 1 minute.
  11. Add cooked Urad dal & kidney beans mixture along with water.
  12. Add water if dal is too thick.
  13. Add salt according to taste.
  14. Cook it for 5 -7 minutes with lid on low flame.
  15. Add few drops of lemon juice
  16. Dal makhani is ready to serve. Garnish with Coriander and add butter on top while serving.
  17. Enjoy it with paratha, naan, roti or rice.

  1. like dal makhni the mosst but never tried cooking it. But i think now i should prepare my self for war with my kitchen for my favourite dishes. Urmi i need recipe for Halwa also that too aate ka halwa.
